More rambling

I'm not where you think I am.
Translation: I am not at home, curled up in front of the family computer. Rather, I am sitting in a room overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Yesterday, I climbed a lighthouse, rode a ferry (twice), and tried not to get even more surnburnt than I already am. Today, I stood on the very spot the Wright Brothers' plane took off that eventful Dec. 17th.
Which got me thinking about history and how it could relate to my characters.
How many people stop and think during the middle of something historic: Wow. What I'm doing is really important and will be remembered for centuries.
Well, can you think of any?
The characters you are writing about may not be part of a rebellion or some big thing that is trying to change the world. But stop and think. What is going on around them? Is there someone who is goingto take what your characters are doing and twist it enough to change the world? Are they themselves going to oneday take what they've done and change the world.
Just something to think about.

And something I will hopefully elaborate on later: Don't let your characters suceed every single time.

So, I won't be at writers group tonight. I'm sorry, I'll apologize as much as you like - on second thought, maybe I won't. But I just might have enough of a first chapter written to make it worth your while hearing it next time.
